How Much Was That T-Shirt?
Clothing is worn for warmth, protection, modesty and fashion. A list of clothing that forgets about warmth, protection and modesty (and some would say fashion too), and proves that there are those among us that have more money than sense. * A set of underwear consisting of panties and a bra from Victoria's Secret set the record for the most expensive underwear for women. In 2002 their 'Red Hot Fantasy' set valued at $15 million. The bra is made from red satin and has 1,300 diamonds, rubies, and other gemstones. This set holds the Guinness World Record for most expensive undergarments for women, and no doubt is in the running for the most uncomfortable underwear for women. * A dress worn for the premiere of the movie Spiderman II that had 3,000 diamonds in the shape of a spider's web is reportedly worth about $10 million, and attracted many unwary flies. * A New York designer offers a pair of blue jeans for $4,000. They are made with some of the world's most expensive denim (I would hope so for that price), diamond buttons and rivets, zippers that are specially polished and plated, pockets made with exotic silk satin, and the jeans are personally labeled with the owners name and ID number. For those trend-setters on a budget, a plebian model of the jeans is offered for $1,000. Levi Strauss must not only be envious, but rolling in his grave. * A T-shirt equipped with over 2,700 Swarovski crystals in the shape of an electric guitar costs $1,300. It is reported to be the most expensive T-shirt in the world, but in the realm of more money than sense this probably won't last long. It is sold in Harrod's, and puts new meaning to the term 'grunge' rock.. * A necktie with over 260 diamonds, made of pure silk and 150 grams of gold, worth $223,000. I've heard of wearing a millstone around your neck, but 260 diamond stones? * A woman's blouse with 900 diamonds totaling 300 carats shown in a fashion show in early 2007 is estimated to be worth $1.4 million. Just a trifling article of clothing for those evenings of casual high fashion? * A hand-tailored suit offered by a London tailoring firm sells for approximately $90,000. But consider all you get for your money: It is made out of some of the most expensive custom-woven material in the world ('natch), and a sample suit is made from the customers measurements first to make sure all measurements are perfect. Between 150-200 construction hours goes into each suit. And if the price still seems a little much, consider that there are 5 custom-tailored dress shirts thrown in the deal. That's right, a $5,000 value ABSOLUTELY FREE! The owner of the shop, William Westmancott says that the suit was designed "with the man who has everything and for whom money is no object". Accordingly, Mr. Westmancott will fly anywhere in the world to personally take the measurements of anyone ordering one of these suits. ABSOLUTELY FREE! But of course!
